The weather gods did the Pirates a favor last night. Rain postponed the Buccos scheduled opener at Cincinnati meaning Jeff Karstens, who had a lousy spring, lost his start. Paul Maholm will get the ball today in a 1:10 p.m. game against Johnny Cueto.
Meanwhile manager John Russell had surgery Friday to take care of out in his elbow.
